Owes Success to Many
Dear Editor:
Last Saturday, May 2, Nandua High School
and Chincoteague Community Center were sites for two Point of Distribution
(POD) exercises. Approximately 800 citizens received supplies that might
typically be distributed after a major disaster strikes the county. In
addition to participating citizens, the following local entities helped
make this state evaluated exercise a success:
Eastern Shore CERT, Eastern Shore Medical
Reserve Corps, ESHARC, Eastern Shore Health Department, Shore Memorial
Hospital, Virginia Department of Transportation, State Police, Chincoteague
National Wildlife Refuge, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Eastern Shore
Rural Health, Union Baptist Church Disaster Relief Team, Parksley Volunteer
Fire Co., Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co., and Accomack County departments – Emergency
Management, Public Safety, Sheriff’s office, Public Works, Parks & Recreation,
Schools — and Town of Chincoteague departments — Emergency
Management, EMS, Police, Public Works. Many thanks go out to this coalition
of national, state, local, and volunteer groups that are working together
to make Accomack County better prepared for any disasters that may come
its way.
Jason Loftus
Accomack County Emergency Management Coordinator
